Online Unicorn Colouring Book

Want to have a go at colouring your own Unicorn pictures ? Yes, there is
an online Unicorn colouring book ! It's part of the Awhitehorse.com Arabian
horse website, and it's recently been expanded with even more
pictures to colour by the sites author and artist, Stacey Mayer.

The art of Ed Beard Jr

I met this artist at "King Richards Faire" Carver MA, on one of
my trips to visit some very good friends in the USA. Whilst there
I bought one of his wonderful Unicorn pictures. On returning home
I decided to check out his website. If anyone has an interest in fantasy art,
this is a site you must visit. Some of you may have seen his artwork already
on some of the "Magic the Gathering" cards or comic book covers ! He has an
outstanding range of work, and much of it is on show, and for sale on his website.

Unicorn Sculptures by Juan Gilberto Hernandez

I was recently sent these pictures and details of these wonderful 6 foot high sculptures
of unicorn heads, carved by an artist in Puerto Rico called Juan Gilberto Hernandez.
Each piece is around six feet high and two feet across, carved from a tree trunk.
It takes the artist many months of work to create these amazing works of art.

Pages of Special Merit

This is where I review pages worthy of special merit each edition.
These are pages I've visited or revisited that have something
unique and original about them, they may really do show that the
author has put a lot of effort into writing and designing the site
or display artwork or stories of exceptional originality.
It's a personal award really, to recognise hard work,
originality, good design or just dedication to Unicorns.

This editions award goes to a site that is not strictly about
Unicorns, but has a Unicorn in a story there, and some excellent
Unicorn and other artwork. However, it astounded me with it's
quality and originality, and kept me entertained for hours...

Fairy Tail, by Kore

Note : A few pages on the above may not be suitable for minors.

I was pointed at this site by a friend, and I was really sad I hadn't seen
it before now. It has some wonderfully imaginative stories, with may
many tangents and paths, all excellently and amusingly illustrated too !
The story there has a Unicorn within it's plot, and there are also some
excellent Unicorn illustrations on the story page and artwork pages.

There are other mythical creatures within these pages, centaurs
particulary, which I also enjoy (as I often read "Centaurs Gatherum",
I know one of it's editors). The site is full of wonderfully crafted pages,
full of wonderful illustrations and words. It's sheer originality, imagination and
excellence is something that's rare these days. I wish I could write that well too !
If you visit all the tangent links to the side, these will keep you entertained for hours.

So, this page deserves to get this editions site of merit award !

New Websites

As usual there are a number of new sites to look at for this edition
that have been added to the Unicorn links page (which was
moved to a separate page then split into two a few months ago).

The Unicorns Meadow has the introduction "So, traveler, you come
searching for the secrets of the Unicorn. If you dare, step
through the portal you wish and be enlightened."
This is an excellent and very interesting site with factual information
on unicorns and other things including original stories and poems
by the sites author. This website is more than worth a visit.

There are some French language Unicorn sites I have found recently ;
Le temps des Licornes ia a very well designed French Unicorn
site with a lot of historical and factual information too.
Creatures Fabuleuses - Licorne is another well designed
page as is the page L'encyclopedie - Les Licornes
Revenium is another French site that has a unicorn page.

A Spanish language site, Maria Teresa Bobbio's page has some
original Unicorn pictures by the sites author.

~Unicorns~ (Those Mystical and Beautiful Creatures)
has a collection of unicorn pictures. Fantasy 2000 has
a Unicorn page too. Other new sites this edition are
Silvers Enchanted Fantasy, Sugar Plums Fantasia and Unicorns

And if you ever wanted to ask the question 'Do I spend a lot of time
looking for Unicorn sites ?', the answer is YES 8-).
Just don't ask how big my monthly phone bill is, or
if my computer chair is worn out yet ! OK <grin>

Unicorn pictures (where to find them)

There are some sites with large and growing Unicorn picture collections.
There is a site with an excellent unicorn picture collection at Danielle's Unicorn Page,
Unicorn Dreams has a growing collection of pictures, good quality scans too.
Holly's Unicorn Meadow has been recently updated and enlarged,
Theresa Farrell's site has some very good original fantasy artwork in her gallery.
Welcome To Wild Unicorns has an extensive collection, and
Paladin's Last Unicorn Page has a large collection of 'The Last Unicorn' movie images
Both of these are excellent web sites too, Paladins page has a bookstore too.
However, I still think Neysa may have one of the largest collections of unicorn
pictures on the internet, several artists exhibit their work there.

Other Artwork Sites

There is some excellent fantasy artwork on this site by Linda Gruber,
and some good tutorials on drawing techniques too ! (I've tried them).

The artwork of Gissel E.

This artist from Uruguay has recently done some wonderful Unicorn drawings.
They are being kindly being hosted by Neysa on her Unicorn picture page.
I must also thank Gissel E. for a wonderful picture she sent to me.

Neysa's Unicorn Picture Page has also been re-designed and moved
recently to a new URL. This must be the best Unicorn picture

More Unicorn Pictures

This is one of the first unicorn pictures I've done myself.
Its based on a photograph of a horse I took which
I've reworked. Click on the picture for the full size version.

Another unusual unicorn picture.
These two impressive stone unicorn figures are
on a factory wall in Stafford near my home.
They were erected when the building was
constructed which was sometime around 1937-1938.

artwork they had created, which with their permission

This picture, created using Photoshop, was sent to me by Mare Astra
as a self portrait. She is significant for having one of the first Unicorn
websites I ever found on the internet, and her site helped to
inspire the creation of this website over three years ago.

These two pictures were sent to me by an artist called Gennale.
I liked them so much I requested permission to put them
on my page, so here they are. The picture on the left is
called Tatianna, and the one on the right is called Wild.

Content and Originality

Original work is becoming rarer, and certainly should be valued. But too many
websites recently though are copying others ideas and then claiming
sole right to it themselves ! They also often use annoying Java code that
stops the right mouse button from working. It's not easy to review pages
easily for mention on this page or bookmark them when half the
browsers functions have been disabled by unfriendly Java code !
