This excellent show is
touring the UK at the moment, and having just seen it,
it may be of interest to others in the UK that like horses and
unicorns too.
They feature a "unicorn" in the show as well as Pegasus
too. For details

If you like horses, I think you will like the show.
Unicorn Artwork, the Elfwood Gallery
One place I
often visit to find original artwork on the Internet is the
Elfwood gallery at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/elfwood.html
It states it is
the largest home of amateur Science Fiction & Fantasy art and
fiction, and I believe this to be
quite a true statement from what I've seen ! It's a non-profit
project created and maintained by
Thomas F Abrahamsson and others, based in Sweden.
There is a lot
of wonderful unicorn artwork to be found on there in the "Lothlorien" online art gallery !
Don't set out with the intention of spending a short time going
through this site, you wont, in fact, you
could spend weeks ! There is that much artwork there, and some of
it of a very high standard
indeed ! There is a search engine there that will help you find
things though.

some images there may not be suitable for minors !)
In the last editions, I reviewed the pages of some artists I found
there,
So, here are pointers to some more artists pages I've enjoyed

Anna-Karin Larsson has
done some wonderful Unicorn artwork, her skill at portraying
movement and expression are especially good.
"Windrunner", "A Spirit called Unicorn"
and also "Three Wise Unicorns" are especially good
examples of this.

One of my favourite
pictures on this months explorations must be "Real
Unicorns" by Melissa E Rogers.
Her other Unicorn work such as the picture called "Innocent

An artist who's pictures you
must see are the Unicorn (and equine pictures) of Sharlene Lindskog-Osorio
Her equine and unicorn artwork is some of the best and the most
exciting I've seen recently.
In particular, the picture of a Unicorn called "Moonlight
Magic" is especially wonderful.

Rhonda L Likins is another good unicorn artist, "Unicorns
playing" is particularly good

This is where I review pages
worthy of special merit each edition.
These are pages I've visited or revisited that have something
unique and original about them, they may really do show that the
author has put a lot of effort into writing and designing the
site
or display artwork or stories of exceptional originality.
It's a personal award really, to recognise hard work,
originality, good design or just dedication to Unicorns.
This editions award goes to a site about a special project many are looking forward to....
This website must be given
credit for giving a unique insight into the processes of creating
this
live action version of the timeless classic story "The Last
Unicorn" by Peter S Beagle. What
has impressed me is the way they are sharing and showing all they
are doing with
everyone, whilst it's in the process of being produced. It's
especially wonderful to see
the computer generated (CGI) character animations, and the
"test images" they
have generated that will go to creating the believable magic of
the final movie
Also on the website are the storyboards, other images and a
wealth of
detailed information that shows all the intense work and
processes
that happen to create what finally becomes a completed movie.
Well done all behind this production, you deserve it !
Previous Special Merit Winners and Issue Dates
New Websites
As usual there are a number
of new sites to look at for this edition that have been added to
the
Unicorn links
page (which was moved to a separate
page then split into two some time ago).
Unicorn's Dell is pick
of this months sites. This is a beautifully designed site, well
constructed and
thoroughly original in ideas and material. It features a lot of
the authors own artwork and
sculpture as well as horses and other things too. The Unicorn
pictures can be found together
with other mythical creatures within the "Wishful Thinking" section of this website. Do take
a look at the artists own wonderful pictures and sculpture there
too.
Laura's Unicorn Art
has some wonderful original unicorn artwork (as well as equine
art too), do take a
look, it's worth it. The Black Unicorn Chronicles is series of stories based around a central
image or theme of a black unicorn, and they are all well worth
reading.
Einhorn und Elfe is a
German site which has a unicorn page called Das Einhorn and has
some nice
pictures. The Lost Unicorn has a
lovely poem on the introduction page,and has sections on
Pegasus as well as about Unicorns. Kitten2u's
Mystical Playground has pictures of
unicorns (categorised as individual artists), as well as
information and other things.
Hannah's Page which
has a unicorn page, Beautiful creatures, the Unicorn and the
The Hidden Glade which
has a section on unicorns are also added this month.
And if you ever wanted to
ask the question 'Do I spend a lot of
time looking for Unicorn sites ?', the answer is YES 8-).
Just don't ask how big my monthly phone bill is, or
if my computer chair is worn out yet ! OK <grin>

Movies

June 2002)
Recently
a number of unicorn movies have either been released
or re-released on DVD disc or VHS cassette or are about to be;
"Legend"
This was recently
released on DVD here in the UK in a wide-screen
version. Many of you will have already have seen it or know of
it, it's
quite a wonderful film, and is worth seeing.
The long rumoured
"ultimate special edition" has been released in the
USA and is available on Amazon.com, but not (no surprise either *sigh*) in
the UK where the only version available is the single disc
version (see above).

"The Little Unicorn"
Available on the UK and USA
Amazon sites, news of this movie was
first given here back in the April 2001 edition of this page.
It's an enjoyable and quite magical story, and well worth
seeing if you like unicorns. I got my copy of this on DVD a week
ago, and was pleased to see it was region 0 (playable anywhere).

"Nico the Unicorn"
If you've not seen
this one, then please do so!
It's a wonderful story based on the book by the same title,
and is a most enjoyable family film with a gripping climax and a
happy ending. They even gave the names of the horse 'actors' in
the
end credits which is too often forgotten, a very nice touch
indeed!
I will say no more and spoil it for you, apart from that it was
far better than I ever expected, so go and get a copy 8-)

movie of Peter Beagle's legendary and wonderful book is
presently It has been
recently updated, and do check out the astounding CGI Peter
Beagle himself had re-written the screenplay, and some of

On
another note entirely..........
I got my "Nico the Unicorn" copy from Amazon in the USA
as it does not appear to
be in the UK yet, hence is only viewable on Region 1
compatible DVD players
unless someone knows otherwise (and do let me know). Also, the "Legend
Ultimate Edition" does not seem to be in the UK yet. There
are sadly many
titles concerning unicorns that you cannot get easily or at all
in the UK,
even some that are produced over here ! So you UK DVD and VHS
movie distributors and publishers, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER !
Why do the UK consumers have to put up with being
treated as second class citizens all the time ?
That's my rant for the month over <grin>
Unicorn Rocking Horses
This absolutely wonderful
46" high carved unicorn rocking horse was
sculpted by DJ Liccardi, and can be found on the "Rare
Breed"

There are also many examples of other rocking horses there too.
Spencer's Wizards
"Spencer's Wizards" online store, based in Bradenton, Florida has a number of wonderful
collectible Unicorn figures for sale, as well as Dragons and
other items. The store is worth a visit.
Lyne's Creations
Lyne's Creations artwork site has a lot of wonderful 3D computer generated equine
and other artwork, and also has some unicorn pictures too. The
picture "Unicorn" on
the Fantasy Art page is
just mind-blowing, you will have to take a look.
Unicorn and Cat is a
beautiful picture and also worth seeing
More Unicorn Artists.....
Two art sites that have some
good unicorn artwork are Alicorn Creative Designs,
especially Stephanie Small's excellent artwork. Also worth
visiting is
Cathey's Gallery which you can find at www.unicornpaintings.com.
Swandog Studios (Art by Xenia) has some wonderful original
artwork with some Unicorn pictures (and equine / TF one's) too.
It has recently moved to it's own domain name, swandogstudio.com

illustrations which deals with what the appearance of a unicorn
should really

too, it's well illustrated and is dedicated to creatures of myth
and legend.

More Unicorn Pictures
This is one of the first
unicorn pictures I've done myself.
Its based on a photograph of a horse I took which

Another unusual
unicorn picture.
These two impressive stone unicorn figures are
on a factory wall in Stafford near my home.
They were erected when the building was
constructed which was sometime around 1937-1938.

Content and Originality
Original work is becoming
rarer, and certainly should be valued. But too many
websites recently though are copying others ideas and work then
claiming
sole right to it themselves ! They also often use annoying Java
code that
stops the right mouse button from working. It's not easy to
bookmark pages
easily for reviewing on this page when half the browsers
functions have
been disabled by unfriendly Java code ! There are better
ways of protecting original images such as watermarks.
